Quick Updates

Hi Parents,

Your children are resting up for this afternoon's Harvest Party.  They are so excited!!  While they rest, I thought I'd post a few reminders/updates:

1. Tomorrow is pajama day!  It's optional, of course.

2. Homework is due tomorrow (including the October home activity calendar)

3. Our sweet librarian let everyone check out a book yesterday even though not everyone brought back last week's book.  I will send those books home today. That means some of you will have TWO library books at home.  We will not have a library time next week (min. day + book fair), so your books will be due Wednesday, November 13th.

4. We will not have choice time today (HARVEST PARTY), which is when I get a chance to read 1:1 with the kiddos.  I will read with your children tomorrow and send new read-at-home books home in tomorrow's folders.

5. Yesterday's field trip was fantastic!!  Thank you to all who participated!!!

Field Trip Tomorrow!!

Your Child Will Need:
1. A Booster Seat
2. A Sack Lunch and Water Bottle
3. Layered Clothing and Walking Shoes

Drivers,  I'll see you here at 11:00!
Please make sure you have a full tank of gas and that your blinkers, lights, etc are in working order.

This is going to be a great adventure!!!

Weekly News and Homework

Language Arts: We will learn about and practice writing C words, sing songs about pumpkins and butterflies, read many books, recite our poem about caterpillars, stamp our sight words (is, make) and practice spelling them every day, write upper and lower case letters, write in our journals, sing about letter sounds, make C books, and continue our literacy center rotations.

Math:  We will finish Chapter 3: Numbers to Five this week and have a test on Friday.  We will practice reading, writing, making groups, and counting to these numbers using pumpkins seeds.  We have a variety of fantastic harvest-themed math games that will make our math time a lot of fun!  We will also count by 1s, 5s, and10s (to 100!), work with tally marks, and graph the weather.

Bible: This week we will learn the story of Joseph and his Coat.  We will read the Bible, sing Heavenly Sunshine and Father, We Thank Thee, review Romans 3:23, Psalm 127:3, Corinthians 5:17, and Ephesians 4:32a, and pray together every day. 

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: This week we will continue learning all about Monarch Butterflies to gear up for our field trip to Natural Bridges this Wednesday.  We will make black cats and pumpkin-head people.  We will also have a harvest-themed party on Thursday afternoon with plenty of games, crafts, and treats!  We will continue to learn about keeping fit and the importance of exercise.  We will also do our class jobs (we’ll get our new jobs on Friday!), attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

Sharing:  We have a sharing time every Friday during our afternoon meeting.

Upcoming Events:

Wednesday, October 30th: Field Trip to Natural Bridges, 11-3.  Please remember to pack a healthy lunch, 2 snacks, and water bottle for this field trip (no hot lunch).  Also, dress your child in layers and comfortable walking shoes.  We have plenty of drivers for this field trip; thank you for your support!!  Parents, please remember to send a booster seat to school with your child.  Drivers, I will send home a reminder notice with directions and additional details to you all on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, please sign in in the office and meet us in the classroom at 11:00.  We will check the cars, load the kids, double check the boosters, and leave by 11:30.  Thanks!

Thursday, October 31st: Harvest Party, 1:30-3 Students are encouraged to dress up as farmers, scarecrows, and farm animals.  Join us!

Friday, November 1^st: Pajama Day!  I think our little Kinders might be tired after all of Thursday’s festivities, so we’ve decided that Friday should be a pajama day.  It is optional, of course J. 

Monday, November 4^th: Chapel, 2:25 Parents are welcome to join us!

 

This Week’s Homework:

Please help your child complete a little homework each night until it is complete. 

The following assignments should be completed by Friday:

1.     Phonics page for the letter of the week- Cc

2.     Handwriting page for the letter of the week- Cc

3.     2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.

4.     Sight word practice: I, big, we, can, in, it, like, up, a, find, see, two, not, go, to, red, have, name, is, and make.

5.     Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc.  I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you!  Sight words are fun to read together, too.  Reading together every night is VERY important.  Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!

School library books are due every Wednesday.

 

Thank you for checking your child’s take-home/homework folder every night and making sure it gets back to school every day.  Please remember to keep the papers in the right-hand pocket at home.

Disney Day!

We had so much fun today!

The kids' costumes were so great.  It was fun seeing everyone dressed as their favorite Disney characters.  Mrs. Deutsch and I dressed up, too :).  We made Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears, had Disney-themed centers, had a costume contest, and even watched a Disney movie with Mrs. Rickabaugh's class during rest time!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I am looking forward to our field trip and harvest party next week!!

ALL SCHOOL SCIENCE NIGHT

Our fifth annual Science Night is Thursday, Nov. 14. Please save the date for a wonderful evening of science fun and learning! More info coming.
 

BOOK FAIR – NOV. 1-8Students will be making wish lists during library class prior to the Conferences and the lists will be available in the library during the Conferences. If you’d like to help at the Book Fair, please contact Stephanie at stephanie@tlc.org. Times needed:

PARENT- TEACHER CONFERENCES NOV. 6-8

Parent-Teacher Conferences are minimum days. School is out at noon. There is Cross Walk until 6pm. Cross Walk will be free ONLY during your conference. Please return your conference confirmation slip by Monday, Oct. 21.

Support TLCS and enter to WIN a 2013 Subaru Outback, 2013 Toyota Prius or $25,000 CASH! One ticket for $5.00 or six tickets for $25.00. For every pack of 6 tickets a student sells, their name will be entered in a drawing for various gift card prizes. The student with the highest sales gets a $100 bill. All tickets stubs and money are due Thursday, Oct. 17. No exceptions! There is no school on Friday, Oct. 18. Drawing is October 27th and you don’t need to be present to win.
