Weekly News and Homework

Language Arts: We will learn about and practice writing N words, make Ns with noodles, make bird nest books, sing songs, read many books, recite our poem about a bird nest, stamp our sight words (have, it) and practice spelling them every day, write upper and lower case letters, write in our journals, sing about letter sounds, make N books, and continue our literacy center rotations.

Math:  We have a butterfly counting book to work on this week.  We will continue working on Chapter 3: Numbers to Five.  We will practice reading, writing, making groups, and counting to these numbers.  We have a variety of fantastic math games that make our math time a lot of fun!  We will also count by 1s, 5s, and10s (to 100!), work with tally marks, and graph the weather.

Bible: This week we will read about Jacob and Esau.  We will read the Bible, sing Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam and Climb, Climb Up Sunrise Mountain, recite Ephesians 4:32a, and pray together every day. 

 

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: This week we will learn all about Monarch Butterflies to gear up for our field trip to Natural Bridges next week.  We will also make symmetrical butterflies and shredded paper bird nests (N is for Nest).  We will continue to learn about keeping fit and the importance of exercise.  Of course, we will also do our class jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

 

Sharing:  We have a sharing time every Friday during our afternoon meeting.

 

Upcoming Events:

TODAY: Monday, October 21st: Chapel, 2:25 Parents are welcome to join us!

 

Friday, October 25^th:  TLCS Spirit Day Dress up as your favorite Disney character.

Wednesday, October 30th: Field Trip to Natural Bridges, 11-3.  Please remember to pack a healthy lunch, 2 snacks, and water bottle for this field trip (no hot lunch).  Also, dress your child in layers and comfortable walking shoes.  We have plenty of drivers for this field trip; thank you for your support!!

Thursday, October 31st: Harvest Party, 1:30-3 (TLCS does not allow Halloween costumes. Instead, students are encouraged to dress up as farmers, scarecrows, and farm animals.)

 

 

This Week’s Homework:

Please help your child complete a little homework each night until it is complete. 

The following assignments should be completed by Friday:

1.     Phonics page for the letter of the week- Nn

2.     Handwriting page for the letter of the week- Nn

3.     2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.

4.     Sight word practice: I, big, we, can, in, it, like, up, a, find, see, two, not, go, to, red, have, and name.

5.     Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc.  I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you!  Sight words are fun to read together, too.  Reading together every night is VERY important.  Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!

School library books are due every Wednesday.
