Weekly News and Homework


Language Arts: We will learn about and practice writing I words, sing  songs, read many books, recite our poem about ice cream, stamp our sight words (to, red) and practice spelling them every day, write upper and lower case letters, write in our journals, sing about letter sounds, make I books, and continue our literacy center rotations.

 
Math:  We will continue working on Chapter 3: Numbers to Five.  We will practice reading, writing, making groups, and counting to these numbers.  We have a variety of fantastic math games that make our math time a lot of fun!  We will also count by 1s, 5s, and10s (to 100!), work with tally marks, and graph the weather.

 
Bible: This week we will read about Abraham and Isaac.  We will read the Bible, sing Father Abraham and Standin’ in the Need of Prayer, recite Psalm 127:3a, and pray together every day. 

 
Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: We will continue to learn about community helpers, keeping fit, and the importance of exercise.  We will also continue doing our class jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

 
Sharing:  We have a sharing time every Friday during our afternoon meeting.


Upcoming Events:

TONIGHT: Monday, October 14th: Home & School Club Meeting, 6pm

Thursday, October 17th: Minimum Day- out at 12.  FYI- NO CENTERS (I won’t need my awesome volunteers, thanks!)

Friday, October 18th: No School

Monday, October 21st: Chapel, 2:25 Parents are welcome to join us!


Wednesday, October 30th: Field Trip to Natural Bridges, 11-3.  Please remember to pack a healthy lunch, 2 snacks, and water bottle for this field trip (no hot lunch).  Also, dress your child in layers and comfortable walking shoes.  We have plenty of drivers for this field trip; thank you for your support!!

Thursday, October 31st: Harvest Party, 1:30-3 (TLCS does not allow Halloween costumes. Instead, students are encouraged to dress up as farmers, scarecrows, and farm animals.)

 
This Week’s Homework:

Please help your child complete a little homework each night until it is complete. 

The following assignments should be completed by Friday:

1.     Phonics page for the letter of the week- I i

2.     Handwriting page for the letter of the week- I i

3.     2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.

4.     Sight word practice: I, big, we, can, in, it, like, up, a, find, see, two, not, go, to, and red.

5.     Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc.  I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you!  Sight words are fun to read together, too.  Reading together every night is VERY important.  Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!

School library books are due every Wednesday.

Thank you for checking your child’s take-home/homework folder every night and making sure it gets back to school every day.  Please remember to keep the papers in the right-hand pocket at home.
