Room Parent(s)

I just received this flyer from TLCS and thought I would share it with all of you :)

WANTED ROOM PARENTS
What is a Room Parent?
A room parent is the critical link between the teacher and the classroom parents. A room parent assists the teacher with special events, communication and parent support.
What is involved in being a Room parent?
The specific duties include:
  • Working with the teacher to plan classroom parties and special events
  • Coordinating classroom volunteer schedules
  • Attending the monthly Home & School Club meetings and
communicating information covered to classroom parents
  • Coordinating classroom auction project
  • Organizing teacher gifts throughout the year (optional)
Do I have to do it alone?
No! You can choose to share the responsibilities with another parent (split up duties and Home & School Club meetings, etc.). Either way, the trick is to DELEGATE and get lots of help! Most parents want to help- just ask! You can break up big jobs into small tasks and use online sign-up sheets so parents can choose when and how they can help – on the go!
    How do I sign up?
Talk to your child’s teacher and let them know you would like to be their Room Parent.  Please sign up at Back-to-School Night.
Thank you for considering this very important job!! It is going to be a great year!

I couldn’t ask for a better class!  We had a fantastically fun week and I’m looking forward to our year together!  Here is a glimpse of what we did the first week of school:

Language Arts: We sang songs, read MANY books, recited poetry, wrote our names, stamped our sight words (I, big), and more.

Math: We explored math manipulatives, wrote the numbers 1-31 on our August calendars, counted to 30 by 1s, 5s, and10s, learned about tally marks, learned about positional concepts (over, under, on, in front, behind, top, middle, bottom, etc), and more.

Bible: We learned about God and His Creation, read the Bible, made Creation Days books, worked on memorizing Genesis 1:1, sang songs, prayed together every day, and more.

Science, Social Studies, Art, and More: We learned about Earth, talked about school rules, learned classroom and recess routines and procedures, drew self-portraits, decorated pennants, toured the school, attended art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explored the classroom during choice time, learned everyone’s name, celebrated the color red, made new friends, and more!!!

Here’s a small taste of what we will do this week:

Language Arts: We will sing songs, read books, recite poetry, make our names with beans, stamp our sight words (can, in), match upper and lower case letters, write in our journals, practice letter formation, and more.

Math: We will explore math manipulatives, write the numbers 1-30 on our September calendars, count to by 1s, 5s, and10s, learn about the following concepts: inside/outside, left/right, and same/different, and more.

Bible: We will continue to learn about God and His Creation, read the Bible, sing songs, recite Genesis1:1, and pray together every day.

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: We will learn about Daytime, make a class rule book, continue to learn about classroom and recess routines and procedures, make Kissing Hand puppets, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, celebrate the color orange, and more!!!

This Week’s Homework:

1. A few of you have not turned in the signature page of the parent handbook.  Please turn it in as soon as possible.  Thank you!  http://tlcs.us/files/2013/03/Parent-Student-Handbook-2013-14.pdf

2. Please help your child complete the “See How I Grew” poster that was sent home in his or her folder last Monday.  Again, most of the coloring and drawing should be done by your child, but please help with the writing and anywhere else help is needed.  This assignment is due THIS FRIDAY, September 6th, but you can turn it in any time before then.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  Have fun!

3. School library books are due every Wednesday.

4. This week’s color is ORANGE!  If you would like, please dress your child in orange this Friday.  We had a blast celebrating red last Friday. J

Thank you for checking your child’s take-home/homework folder every night and making sure they get back to school every day.  I appreciate it so much!!
