Our First Frog!

The Vomvokids LOVED observing this little guy today.  It was definitely the highlight of the day!  He will be returned to his pond at Ms. Roni's parents' house this afternoon.

Friday, May 9^th: Minimum Day. School is out at 12. Crosswalk is open until 6.

Monday, May 19^th: Character Trait Chapel at 2:25.

May 20^th-May 28^th: Book Fair

Thursday, May 22^nd: TLCS Annual Spring Concert at 7pm in the auditorium. Our entire school will sing!

This Week’s Homework:

The following assignments should be completed and turned in by Friday:

1. Ocean Animal Poster. Please help your child use the information from last week’s Ocean Animal Investigation outline to create a poster to present to the Vomvokids in the form of an oral report on Friday, May 16^th. Please refer to the timeline below.

2. 2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.

3. Practice reading our sight words every night. (new list below)

 

4. Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc. I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you! Sight words are fun to read together, too. Reading together every night is VERY important. Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!

School library books are due every Wednesday morning.

Friday is a minimum day.

Language Arts: This week we will continue learning about consonant digraphs and word families.  This week’s digraph is wh.  We will read many books each day as a class, in small groups,  and independently,  practice reading and writing our new sight words (ride, want, be), write in our journals, and read and write in our small group literacy centers.

Math:  This week we will finish our unit on subtraction, which is the last chapter of our Scott Foresman curriculum.  Hooray!!  We have met (and exceeded) all Kindergarten Math State Standards!  In the remaining weeks we will focus on year-end assessments and prepare for 1^st grade.     

Bible: This week’s lesson is called Jesus Begins His Church.  We will sing This is My Commandment, and This is the Church, recite, discuss, write, and illustrate Ephesians 4:25a, and pray together every day.   

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: As the year comes to an end, our themes will be Friendship and Community.  We are also keeping an eye on our polliwogs and froglets.  We are mere days away from having an actual frog or two!!  We will continue to do our team jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

Examples of Animal Report Posters

Here are a few examples of animal report posters I found online.  These are not ocean animals, of course, but they should help you get an idea of how to use the information from your child's ocean animal research outline to help him or her design a poster to present to the class. 

As noted in this week's Weekly News and Homework, the research outline is due this Friday, the poster is due next week, and the oral presentations will be Friday, May 16th.  If you would like to keep the poster at home until the day of the presentations to help your child practice, that's fine, too.  If you have any questions, please ask! :)


         

We had a great day at the Seymour Center!

 We are extremely blessed to have such wonderfully supportive parents. Thank you everyone for getting your children to school early today and thank you drivers for taking such good care of our kinders on our field trip. We couldn't have done it without you!!

Weekly News and Homework

Welcome Back!

TOMORROW: Tuesday, April 29^th: Field Trip to the Seymour Center at Long Marine Lab.  Our tour is EARLY.  It was the only time available.  Please meet in the classroom at 8am (Drivers at 7:50); I hope to leave campus by 8:10.  Thank you!!

Language Arts: This week we will continue learning about consonant digraphs and word families.  This week is th.  We will read many books each day as a class, in small groups,  and independently, read, write, make sight word flowers for our word wall and practice reading and writing our new sight words (no, that, came), write in our journals, and read and write in our small group literacy centers.  We will also write our monthly writing samples for our writing wall.

Math:  This week we will continue working on subtraction facts through ten.  We will count by 1s, 5s, and10s to 100, work with our number of the day (Spanish, tally marks, addition and subtraction problems, etc.), and create class graphs.  We will also make our May calendars on Thursday. 

Bible: This week we will read and discuss one of Jesus’ parables: The House on the Rock.  We will sing Oh, How I Love Jesus, Jesus Loves Even Me, His Banner Over Me Is Love, and Isn’t He Wonderful (which we will sing at next week’s chapel),  learn 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4, and pray together every day.   

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: This month’s themes are conservation, oceans, and Easter.  Tomorrow (Tuesday, 4/29) we will visit the Seymour Center at Long Marine Lab to learn more about the animals in our bay.  We are also keeping an eye on our tadpoles and polliwogs.  We will continue to do our team jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

 

Upcoming Events:

This just in: Our student principal for the day (5/2) just changed this from neon day to pajama day.  Also, she is planning on having a used book sale.  If you have any used books to donate, please drop them by the office this week.  Come buy some new books, too!!
