Monday, May 19th: Character Trait Chapel at 2:25

Thursday, May 22nd: TLCS Annual Spring Concert at 7pm in the auditorium.  This year it is called “Take 2,” and includes drama as well.  Attendance is strongly encouraged but not required.  Students should wear “fancy clothes” for this occasion.  Our entire school will sing and perform!

Friday, June 6th: Last Day of School!  School is out at 12.  We will have a small kindergarten presentation and graduation in our classroom from 10-11 and celebrate with an all-school picnic from 11-12.  Everyone is invited to attend the graduation and picnic!

FYI-- Friday, May 23rd-Friday, May 30th: I will be at an out-of-town wedding (Pete's best friend since KINDERGARTEN is getting married to my friend of 15 years!).  Mrs. Dueck, a veteran kindergarten teacher, will be here for me.  Mrs. Deutsch will also be here, of course.

 This Week’s Homework:
The following assignments should be completed and turned in by Friday:

1.     Ocean Animal In-Class Presentations.  Please refer to the timeline below.
2.     2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.
3.     Practice reading our sight words every night.
4.     Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc.  I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you!  Sight words are fun to read together, too.  Reading together every night is VERY important.  Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!
School library books are due every Wednesday morning.

Ocean Animal Report Timeline:
Friday, May 2nd: Research was due.

Friday, May 9th: Poster was due
This Friday, May 16th: Ocean Animal In-Class Presentations

This Week’s Focus:

Language Arts
This week we will continue learning about consonant digraphs and word families.  We will review and compare ch, th, and wh.  We will read many books each day as a class, in small groups,  and independently,  practice reading and writing our new sight words (under, into, black) with extra emphasis on writing sentences that include these words, write in our journals, and read and write in our small group literacy centers.

Math
In the remaining weeks we will focus on cumulative review, year-end assessments, and 1st grade readiness.

Bible
This week we will learn about Paul, the first missionary.  We will sing Beautiful Things, recite, discuss, write, and illustrate Acts 16:31b, and pray together every day.

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc
As the year comes to an end, our themes will be Friendship and Community.  We will continue to learn about ocean animals and life in tide pools this week as we finish our tide pool books and listen to ocean animal presentations on Friday.  Next week we will begin our physical science unit on sound, hot and cold, and weight.  In music class we have been practicing for the Spring Concert, “Take 2”.  We will continue to do our team jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!
