Weekly News and Homework

Here is a small taste of what we’ll do this week:

Language Arts: We will learn about and practice writing X words, sing songs, read many books, stamp our sight words (look, yellow, four) and practice spelling them every day, write upper and lower case letters, write in our journals, sing about letter sounds, make and learn to read X books, continue our literacy center rotations, and more!!

Math:  Last week most of our math lessons consisted of adding, subtracting, sorting, and graphing sweethearts.  This week we will continue our unit on TIME and MONEY.  We will also count by 1s, 5s, and10s (to 100!), work with our number of the day (Spanish, tally marks, addition and subtraction problems, etc.), and graph the weather.  We will also continue working on addition and subtraction facts.

Bible: This week we will learn about Jonah and the Great Fish.  We will read the Bible, sing along with Wee Sing Bible Songs and Wee Sing More Bible Songs, recite, illustrate, and discuss Luke 2:12, and pray together every day.

Science, Social Studies, Art, and Misc: This month’s themes are Valentine’s Day, Community, and Presidents.  We will also continue our Physical Science unit with plenty of hands-on activities (matter, movement, magnets, sink or float, fun!!).  We will continue to do our team jobs, attend art class, music class, library, computer lab, and PE, explore the classroom during choice time, and more!!!

Sharing: We have a sharing time every Friday during our afternoon meeting.

This Week’s Homework:

The following assignments should be completed by Friday:

1.     Phonics page for the letter of the week- Xx

2.     Handwriting page for the letter of the week- Xx

3.     2-3 choices from our monthly family activity calendar.

4.     Sight word practice!

5.     Ten minutes (or more!) of reading every night with a parent, guardian, or older sibling, etc.  I’m sure your child would love to read the book in his or her small manila folder to you!  Sight words are fun to read together, too.  Reading together every night is VERY important.  Let’s work together to develop a love of books and reading in our children!

School library books are due every Wednesday morning.
